On Wednesday 12th August, Rushworth P-12 College played the Ironbark Cup against St. Mary’s School. It was a good afternoon to watch the football as the ball got thrown up at 1:45.
A few points got kicked by Brett Anderson, and Alex and Andrew Gelsi both kicked one goal each and they were the only goals kicked.
In the 4th quarter St Marys put their best at centre half forward and he kicked 6 goals. It was tight until the 4th quarter came and everyone was tired but everyone still got a touch of the ball.
Central umpires Ben Kealy and Taswell Pain did a fantastic job, as did Timmy Wall, Ryan West, Jeremy Lambden and Nathan McKay.
We would like to give a big thank you to them, and to Mr Fraser as the coach for the afternoon.
The scores were:
St Marys: 10.10.70
Rushy P-12: 2.2.14
A big thanks to David Chillingsworth for lending the junior footy jumpers and some people brought their own. Just again big thanks to all who helped on the day!!!!
Andrew Gelsi

Last night we had a very good representation of our College community with over 60 parents, along with current and potential students, gathered in the College Hall to hear about the ‘Rushworth Model’.
I shared with parents the outcome of some research that has recently been conducted in many countries across the world. As can be seen from the diagram, there are three key ingredients to building engaged and resilient students in their education. Read the rest of this entry »

The Year 7 classes have recently returned from their Forest Edge Camp – they have been busy writing recounts of their adventures. Sounds like they had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Frantic Flyin Fox!
Click Click. The buckles did up and they set off down the track. Up and down the hills Sara went, huffing and puffing. Finally she got to the top, Melissa buckled her to the fox. She started running, whoosh! The ground disappeared from under her feet. She said it felt like she was flying and the view was great. Click. Sara’s fox clicked into the catch. Miss West took the ladder to her. As she struggled up, everyone could see her shaking but it seemed to be out of excitement not terror.

Fantastic Flying Fox
The Year 7’s used a 300m flying fox on the 23rd of July, during their time at Forest Edge. First off the teacher, Melissa, talked about safety and how to do everything like doing up the harness, the strop and the fox.
The children geared up and ran off to have their turn. Getting to the launch pad the teacher put the fox around the cable, connecting the strop to the harness then to the fox.
After Melissa would check the harness and helmet, they would get the all clear and sprint of the launch pad.
They would cruise down and at the end, would be caught by a catch. A ladder would be bought out and it would be all over.
The flying fox appeared a really great activity to do, it gave them a great view and it looked really fun!

On Thursday the 23rd of July all of the Years 7’s from Rushworth P-12 College were at Forest Edge camp.
They participated in lots of activities but hut building was clearly the best. Hut building is an activity that involves groups of about 4 people building a hut out of wood and bark big enough to fit the whole group inside.
Oh! - it’s also got to be water-proof because when their hut was built everyone got inside while their teacher poured cold water over the hut.
By the look on their faces they had tremendous fun, a camp they’ll never forget.

Wednesday 29th July saw the culmination of this project with a special luncheon being held. Invited guests shared in the story of the project so far, watched a great movie put together by Danny Hindson and then enjoyed a scrumptious lunch with the Multi Media students. A comprehensive report and pictures will feature in the next edition of the Waranga News – please check it out!

On Friday 31st July the school community made it’s way to the Rushworth Recreation Reserve to hold it’s annual Fun Run/Walk.

Enthusiastic participation by all students made for a great afternoon and we were successful in raising $ 512.95 for sporting equipment which will be used at lunchtimes.
Thanks must go to the students for raising such a great amount – a very worthwhile effort!
